At some point in our life, we will all go through testing or trials of some sort. I believe we get testimonies by enduring these tests.
One Sunday at church we heard a testimony of one woman who went through cancer. She was sharing her story about FROG (Fully Relying On God). (At this point, I had once heard about this FROG thing before from a friend.) She gives people a frog, when they are going through a difficult situation.
This woman at church explained that, as she was going through cancer treatments, a friend gave her a stuffed frog. She spoke, with tears in her eyes, about how there were days she couldn’t speak, pray, or even think. All she could do was squeeze that stuffed frog, while fully relying on God!
When she finished her story, she raised and shook that stuffed frog almost like a trophy. At the end of her testimony, a victorious smile came across her face, like an athlete finishing a race. The frog became a representation of a struggle that God had fully brought her through. We all wiped tears from our eyes, cheering and applauding the faithfulness of our heavenly Father.
After church I was supposed to go over to a sick friend’s house to support and pray with her, but I really was not in the mood to go anywhere. I tried to justify the fact that church ended later than expected, and by the time I got to her house, everyone would be gone.
However, God knew that I would be going!
My friend called and asked, “Where are you?” I tried to get out of it with all kinds of excuses. She simply said, “Nope! Get over here,” and she hung up. Ugh! Now I had to go.
As I was driving in my car, I pictured that stuffed frog from church that morning. I knew that God wanted me to get my friend a stuffed frog and explain the whole Fully Rely On God thing.
I thought I could stop at the drug store and purchase a stuffed frog on my way to her house. It was around Easter, so finding a stuffed frog should be easy right? Wrong! I could not find one stuffed frog! I was about to walk out of the store feeling defeated, when I suddenly spotted a ceramic frog. It was perfect -small enough to fit in your hand, and best of all, it was pointing toward Heaven! I smiled because God is so awesome, and He found the most perfect frog for His little lesson.
I purchased my little green critter, beaming with excitement over what was about to take place. I prayed on my drive, asking God to guide me on how to pray with my friend. I knew that God was with me, and something big was about to happen.
I arrived at her house with my gift from God safely hidden. What happened next still makes me speechless. As the door opened, I saw frogs! I mean they were everywhere! Frogs on the wall, ceramic frogs on shelves, picture of frogs, big frogs, and small frogs. I was in a swamp!
I laughed as I hugged my friend hello and brought out my little gift. I sheepishly began to explain my little story, when I realized there was so much more to the story. You see, I thought I had a lesson for her, but God had a lesson for me!
I told her, “I had no idea that you loved and collected frogs. The funny thing is that God told me to get you a frog. It was His gift to you. I didn’t know what you love, but God does! He knows just how much you love frogs that He wanted to give you one from Him! God knows you! He knows your thoughts, your desires, your weakness and your strengths. God knows everything about you! Most of all God loves you!”
My friend smiled and hugged me tight. She pulled away from me, and I saw tears rolling down her cheeks. Trying to comprehend what was just said, she just looked at me and said, “Yes, He does!”
